You will have times when you are highly motivated and times when you feel stuck. But there are some considerations that are very useful to bear in mind to keep your encouragement high.

The mindset while learning a language is very important! The approach you have to the language also has a great effect on your learning!  You have great advantages on your behalf and it is important that you are acquainted with them. First of all, we live in an age in which learning a new language had never been so accessible. In the past, just a few could pay a private tutor or have time and money to travel to a foreign country to learn a new language. This excluded a lot of people.

Some years ago, just wanting to learn a new language was not enough. You also had to have the means to achieve this. But today we live in the era of information. To learn Italian or any other language, the only thing you need is the desire to do so, and you will find online all the resources to achieve it! And even better, you can find tons of these resources completely free! Learning the Italian language online free is no more a dream! The Internet has reduced the distance between you and the language you want to learn. You are enormously lucky compared to all those people in the past.

Imagine a person 100 years ago wanting to learn Italian. Suppose that person heard you say that you can not learn Italian with all the resources you have on the Internet. What do you think that person would think about you? What do you think that person would do with all the opportunities you have?

And as a second consideration, all of us have a marvelously powerful machine: our brain. Learning a new language is a task your brain is capable of doing. It is designed to do things a lot more complex than learning a language. It is like if you have a Ferrari parked in your garage and you are doubtful if you could make it to your local supermarket. With that Ferrari, you could reach your local supermarket and beyond.

Besides these considerations, learning a second language is an excellent exercise for your brain. If you have a powerful Ferrari but you do not ride it, the day will come when you will want to use it, but it will not respond. As a person goes to the gym to exercise his body, you can exercise your brain learning a new language.Where do you work out

So, whoever you are, where ever you are, there are no excuses to quit! Be grateful for all the resources you have online and commit to learning Italian every day. I wish you the best on your Italian journey! And do not forget to check out the recommendations and free courses we point out for you on this site. You have it all to learn Italian. It’s up to you!

We are also very interested in hearing your opinion. If you have a comment or a question, please leave it in the box below! Grazie mille!

  1. What a great page- so many insights and resources to help someone if they are wanting to pick up another language. I have always wanted to learn another language WELL – Italian could be an option because I know that it makes sense to pick up a latin based language … plus I really love Italy…you are right when you say a person has to have a desire. I have found it challenging to stay consistent. Considering I am into brain science and mindset I wonder if there are some hypnosis acceleration tips for learning another language…hmmmm will need to look into it won’t I =p

    1. Hi, Andrea! Thank you for your kind words about this site. And I encourage you to pick up Italian. Your approach to learning a new language is very interesting and I had not thought of it. Any discovery in that direction, please share. I’m very happy you stopped by and thank you very much for your unusual and intriguing point of view. 😀

  2. I was in Barcelona 15 years ago and decided to download a Spanish course in case I ever wanted to retire there, which I thought highly probable; but then I discovered they speak a completely different dialect in the Catalonia part of Spain where almost fluent speakers of traditional Spanish have a difficult time with it.
Anyway, thank you for the resources link where I found Spanish courses to give it another try, and maybe Italian also because they have many of the same roots.
I was there for a month last year and loved it too.

    1. Hey, James! Great to hear about you and your experience learning Spanish! There are wonderful resources on the Internet for learning both Spanish and Italian. Saludos.

  3. Yeah, it’s crazy how many resources are out there for people to learn languages today. I know that when my dad was a kid, all he could do was learn in a classroom, buy cassette taps on it, or go to the country.

But today you can connect with a person half way around the world on Skype and learn that way! I’ve actually learned a little Italian myself with the help of Duolingo, which I know you’ve talked written about before. It’s great that it is free for everyone to use.

    1. Yes! Skype is amazing! Free resources for learning languages are all over the Internet. Great you have been using Duolingo to learn Italian. Yes, I wrote a post about Doulingo and you can read it by clicking here.
When it comes to learning languages, we are enormously lucky compared with all those people in the past. So we must take advantage of it! Thanks for stopping by!

  4. I totally agree that fixing your mindset while learning a language is very important. I always wanted to learn Italian!
I have a little question, I learned French before, do you know if it could help me with learning Italian, or just get me confused?
    Thank you for your help

    1. The Romance languages are the modern languages that evolved from Vulgar Latin. Romance languages (French, Italian, Portuguese, Latin or Romanian) are all quite close to each other. And I believe, the closest to Italian is French. So if you already know French, it will be much easier for you to learn Italian compared to a person that only speaks English! Go for it! 🙂

  5. For free! No way!
Awesome post! 😀 Thank you so much for the information!
I think that speaking other languages is really good. You get to know other cultures and you also grow as a person. In my experience, though, learning a second language was really difficult. I’m a native Spanish speaker and I learned to speak English. Let me tell you, it was really hard work for me.
Thank you for the resources you present for learning Italian. I wish I had found a similar site when I was learning English!

    1. Good for you! You´re bilingual! Many have a similar experience when learning a foreign language. But only a few are persistent, as you, and accomplish the goal! I really wish to make this journey easier for all those who are learning Italian. Thank you for your kind words about this site. And thanks for stopping by! 😀
